Holistic & Natural Health Practitioner epiphany-health@comcast.net

As a Traditional Naturopath and work with women on hormone health, digestion, anxiety and chronic issues.  I tend to attract women between 40-55 that are experiencing mid-afternoon energy crashes, difficulty waking or sleeping through the night, emotional ups and downs that are aggravated by exhaustion, and who are essentially dragging themselves through their days

I have worked with enough of these clients that I have a go-to remedy that seems to help rebalance and enable them to get enough energy and traction to start to rebuild their health.  This remedy was unexpected as I’m trained in herbs, essential oils, and homeopathics but working with my clients with adrenal weaknesses, I realized I needed to provide as much support to the adrenals as quickly as possible.  Additionally, this tool supports my personal hormonal philosophy which is to first target building or strengthening the actual endocrine gland (e.g. thyroid, adrenal, ovaries) rather than to start supplementing with hormones (e.g. DHEA, estrogen) so that the body can naturally bring itself back into balance.

Hormone work is sensitive and sometimes I need to just sidle up on an issue and sometimes I need a bigger tool.  I consider one of the bigger tools in my toolkit to be glandular remedies.

Glandular remedies contain actual glands from animals – typically bovine (cows) or porcine (pigs).  The most common glandular remedy is Armour Thyroid which is a thyroid medication comprised of the thyroid gland of a pig.  In natural health, there’s a saying that ‘the best way to heal a liver is to eat liver’ so it makes sense that one of ways to heal the adrenal gland (the stress regulator) is to give it actual adrenal gland.

In the adrenal support remedy that I prefer, Nature’s Sunshine Adrenal Support, you’ll see the adrenal glandular combined with other supportive remedies like B vitamins, which is typically low in my stressed-out clients and is an important vitamin for managing stress, as well as Vitamin C and some adaptogenic herbs (herbs that help the body adapt to stress).  I believe that having the complementary vitamins and herbs included with the glandular to be much more supportive to the long-term rebuilding effort than just the glandular itself.

Typically, I hear positive feedback after a client has been on the remedy for 30-45 days.  I have observed this remedy, on multiple occasions, help my clients get their feet back under them so that they have the energy and hope to continue on their health improvement path.  Obviously, each of us are different and I work with women to customize health improvement programs that are specific to their needs, but this remedy gets consistent, positive feedback from my clients.
